Over the next few days Austin and I drove from our hotel down the Southern Oregon and North Californian coastline. Again we went by the "if we see something that interests us, we'll stop" plan. That proved to be a great thing as we stopped at many outlooks, tidepools, beaches and other items of interest that caught his eye.
We stopped at the Ranger Station in Crescent City and were told that a mommy and baby whale were in the Klamath River just a bit further south. So we decided to go a bit farther than we'd planned on to check it out. Neither ever surfaced enough to get a good picture, but you can make out a shadow in the water. Even when we couldn't see them, sometimes they went into a cove area, we could hear them from time to time. The roadside was full of cars that had stopped to look.
